Who Told You Life Was Supposed to Be Fair?

Somewhere along the way, most of us absorbed a quiet belief. Life is supposed to be fair. We never decided to believe it. No one sat us down and promised it. We just soaked it up, and then spent years feeling cheated whenever the world did not cooperate.

Here is the honest truth I offer people. No one ever actually told us life would be fair. It is a story we inherited, and it is one of the heaviest ones to carry, because it quietly turns every hard thing into proof that we have been wronged.

I do not say this to be cold. I say it because it is freeing. When you stop demanding that life be fair, you stop waiting for an apology that is never coming. You get your energy back, and you can spend it on what you can actually influence instead of on resentment.

Unfair things will still hurt, and they should. Feel them fully. But you do not have to add the second layer of suffering, the part that insists this should not be happening to me. It is happening. The real question becomes, what do I want to do from here?

Letting go of fair is not giving up. It is setting down a weight you were never meant to carry, so your hands are free for the life that is actually in front of you.
