My story

A wide, winding path

I grew up in Hawai‘i, and moved to Arizona shortly after getting married. I raised two daughters, went through a divorce, and in 2018 I came home to Honolulu. Like a lot of people, my life has not been a straight line. It has been a series of chapters, some hard, all of them teachers.

My background is wide on purpose. I have worked with preschool, kindergarten, and high school students. I have served in an at-risk prevention program, and in home health and hospice, sitting with people at the very end of their stories.

Most recently I worked at Waiawa Correctional Facility in the education department, teaching the men GED and communication skills, and coordinating the SCORE business plan classes. Today I work at the Women’s Community Correctional Center in the mental health division, teaching psycho-educational classes, doing daily rounds, and meeting with clients one on one.

I feel so blessed to be of service. Every day I get to share tools and strategies that help people make a smoother transition back into their lives, by raising their awareness and gently adjusting the thought patterns that no longer serve them. They learn and grow at their own pace. So will you.

Why I do this

Mental health is invisible, but it is everywhere

As I reflect on what I see at work, and when I am not at work, it occurs to me that mental health is somewhat invisible but highly prevalent. It is everywhere. Seemingly ignored or brushed off, as though if we do not look at it, it might go away. It will not.

So many of us are quietly carrying more than we let on. Our youth, especially, can feel caught between childhood and adulthood with not much guidance. It is no one’s fault. It is simply how fast the world is moving. And at times, it can feel heavy.

My goal is to help people plant seeds and sprout what they want to cultivate in their soul garden. To understand that you are not alone, and nothing is wrong with you. If you are willing to look at what you want and what you are willing to work for, that is what is needed to make some real change. I would love to walk that path with you.
