From Reaction to Response

A reaction is automatic. Something happens, and before you have even thought about it, you have snapped, shut down, or spiraled. The old groove is so worn that the needle drops into it on its own.
A response is different. A response has a pause in it. A breath. A moment where you get to ask, who do I want to be right now, instead of letting the trigger decide for you.
That pause feels almost impossible at first, because the old habit is faster. But it is a muscle. Every time you catch yourself, breathe, and choose, you make the space a little bigger and the old groove a little shallower.
You will not get it perfect. You do not need to. You only need to be a little more proactive than reactive, a little more often. Over time, that small shift changes the entire feel of your days.
