Busy Is Not the Same as Alive

We wear busy like a badge. Ask anyone how they are and the answer is the same. So busy. So slammed. So tired. We say it almost proudly, as if motion were the same thing as meaning.

It is not. The hamster wheel spins fast and goes nowhere. You can run on it your whole life, exhausted every night, and never once ask whether the wheel is pointed at anything you actually want.

There are good things about the wheel. It keeps food on the table and keeps us moving when we feel lost. The danger is forgetting there is a way to step off, even for a moment, and look around.

So here is a gentle question. If you slowed down for one honest hour, what would you notice that the busyness has been helping you avoid? Sometimes we stay busy precisely so we never have to sit with that question.

Being alive is not the absence of effort. It is effort pointed at something that matters to you. You are allowed to slow down long enough to aim.
